"They're too loud," Maeve answers without glancing up at Steve, knowing he'll take her words as the light joke they are. Her tone may not say as much, but Steve knows her well enough by now to know she's not easily distracted, especially when she's reading. Outside noise tends to bleed out into nothing more than a gentle hum when she's caught up in a book.
